sockerfrossa or winter gluttony … yummy

I am usually quite content with eating starch-free. There is nothing (apart from German bread maybe) that I so dearly miss or could not possibly live without. But there are times when I am tested; and THEN there are times when I cave in. Our annual Sockerfrossa is one of those events.

So how does it work? Invite loads of women (for the lovely beehive background noise) and tell all of them to bring something nice to eat (for the yummy factor). You will end up with a wonderful afternoon / evening, with little delights that you never had before.

There is plenty to be said about such events. None of it is truly true. But spending 3-4 hours chatting, discussing ideas and nibble on food-y things is unbeatable. (And joys that a doggy-bag for the significant other can bring is not to be dismissed). I imagine that a BBQ with an all-male cast comes with similar creature comfort and I would certainly not scoff at the doggy bag.

This year we had:

  • Blue cheese & fig filled Filo (thanks Taku)
  • Fudge (thanks Åsa)
  • Saffranskrans (thanks Josefine)
  • Non-alcoholic beverages (thanks Ulrika)
  • Home-made Snickers (thanks Therese)
  • velvet cake muffins (thanks Malin)
  • cocos-tops (thanks Irene)
  • Dates with bacon (thanks Miriam)
  • Toffee (thanks Anna-Karin)
  • Cheese plate (thanks Åsa)
  • sparkling wine (thanks Elke)
  • and starch-free biscuits (me … tada)

Needless to say that I tried all of it (and are paying the price for it now).

But, events like these will always be a challenge; do you go and eat nothing? go and bring your own food? decline the invitation altogether? Frankly, I like none of those options.

Becoming an anti-social mop-head is certainly not the plan and, I guess, not the purpose of eating starch-free. So … plan ahead (these kind of parties or get-togethers do not appear out of thin air) and indulge yourselves. But keep in mind that you will have back pains for a a few days. Like with everything else … when it comes to indulgences … do, but in moderation.
