I always loved my mother’s stuffed cabbage rolls. I still do, but I have no patience for them. Furthermore, you need to ‘de-smell-ise’ your apartment after you made them.
A faster, easier and equally delicious alternative is lettuce rolls. (see image above).
- leaf-y lettuce (you need big leaves)
- minced beef (lamb, pork, elk, etc.)
- seasoning and herbs
- garlic
- fresh cilantro
Clean the lettuce leaves (one at a time) and put them into a bowl. Boil water and pour over the lettuce and let sit.
Meanwhile, fry the ground beef, season (I used rosemary, pepper, salt), add garlic. Stir until everything is well mixed.
Cut the fresh cilantro and add to the beef mixture. Stir. Turn off the heat.
Take a lettuce leaf and start filling + rolling. Don’t make them too big (or use two or more leaves). Place into a frying pan (or use the one you used for the beef mixture) and get them slightly brown.
Serve with the leftover beef mix.
